A monthly meeting of strategizing and coordinating a grassroots effort to close Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant in a safe and accountable manner. All are welcome!
Since July of 2011, Stony Point Center has been the home of a growing movement of citizens in the Hudson Valley and NY Metro Area who are concerned about the safety of the reactors at Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant. Because of the changing energy market, Entergy, the owner of the reactors has finally decided to close! An agreement has been signed with NYS and Riverkeeper to end litigation in return for Unit 2 closing in 2020 and Unit 2021 closing in 2021. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has signed off on the agreement. The closing is fraught with difficulties for the towns that depend on Indian Point for tax revenue.
Decommissioning the plant and safely isolating the radioactive waste that is stored there is the next task that requires an active Community Advisory Board. This is a task IPSEC is poised to take on.
Join us! All are welcome at our monthly first Sunday Convergence from 1:30 to 5:00 PM. We usually share food together potluck-style, and you are welcome to bring something to contribute, or just bring yourself.
Note: this month's convergence is on the 2nd Sunday due to the July 4 weekend.
