Focusing Institute World Conference

What an exciting week for us; we welcomed The Focusing Institute World Conference of Focusing Oriented Psychotherapies. Organizers and participants came from Japan, South America, Europe and all parts of the US to share their knowledge and experience. We are grateful to the Conference chairs Soti Grafanaki and Doralee Grindler Katonah for trusting us with their event. The Focusing Institute staff members, Elizabeth Cantor and Rita Kirsch were instrumental in providing us details so that every aspect of the conference was a success. Their Programming Committee and Hospitality Committee planned the special events and beautified the dining room and meeting spaces. The participants came together each morning, then split off into study groups and workshops. Their week included an opportunity to meet up close and personal with a dozen published authors at their book signing event, and they enjoyed a wonderful wine & cheese reception with music by the phenomenally talented couple Mike & Ruthy.

Participants quickly acclimated to our willingness and desire to make him or her comfortable, supporting their needs for technology in each meeting space; meeting their dietary needs and letting them ‘focus’ on sharing their techniques and experiences with each other. It was remarkable to witness the obvious respect and deep friendships they have made over the years for such a far-reaching, global organization. Many participants departed on Sunday, but fifty coordinators have stayed on to dream, discover and discern the future of their organization.

Our staff and volunteers wish them all the best as they return to their corners of the globe and their own practice; each one better off having shared this time together; Stony Point Center better off for having shared our open space with their open hearts.
