Good News from August

Stony Point Center Impact

Word is spreading about the mission, commitments, and improvements we’ve been making at Stony Point Center. Local, National, and International Guest Groups are getting the support they need to congregate and savor the time to both work on their plans and rejuvenate their souls.

Meanwhile, our nascent programs are gaining traction as careful listening, creative partnering, and strategic alignment with other IUA entities help shape the umbrella “school” we are forming. Learn more about “ROOTS” in the attached flyer, along with other free and low-cost programs Stony Point Center is offering in support of social justice, leadership development, and spiritual renewal.

Missionally-Aligned Groups

SPC’s mission is to nurture a space of inclusion and acceptance so groups can confront and transform the brokenness of our shared physical and spiritual world.

We’ve been asking our groups to share what they are most proud of that their group has done/achieved recently. Below are a few responses from groups that spend time with us in August:

  • Worldwide Participation in Ecumenical Prayer led by Women: “The World Day of Prayer is an international ecumenical prayer movement led by Christian women. It is run under the motto “Informed Prayer and Prayerful Action” and is celebrated annually in approximately 140 countries on the first Friday in March.”
  • International, Cooperative Scholarship for Justice: “Professor of Anthropology at the University of Bremen, Germany. Co-organizing a Writing Event with Cameron Hu from Wesleyan College.” (Wenner-Gren Writing Group, working on dismantling heteropatriarchy)
  • Seeing the Impact of their Work: “We are a leadership development nonprofit working with NYC professionals across sector & difference to create a more equitable city.” (Coro)

  • Wenner-Gren Writing Workshop: “committed to playing a leadership role in anthropology. We help… amplify the impact of anthropology within the wider world.” Note: Specifically working on dismantling heteropatriarchy in this workshop.
  • Coro: “build(s) the leadership community of New York City by training students, executives, activists, and entrepreneurs with the skills, knowledge, and networks to lead change and advance innovative solutions for the city’s critical public issues.”
