Stony Point Center Programs
June is a busy month for guest groups. It was also a rich month in planning and developing the emerging direction of Stony Point Center’s social justice-focused programming.
This month, we:

Engaged with the Interfaith Center of New York- Held planning meetings for our November 3-6 Housing Justice Summit
- Developed a partner program with a nonprofit to host a “Changemaker (Re)Boot” leader renewal and reengaging retreat scheduled for August
- Co-Hosted a Labyrinth Walk
- Worked with newcomers on using the land here to farm fresh food for their communities
- Continued work on expanding our trainings, gatherings, and programming into a cohesive social justice center
We will continue to share our progress as we work to solidify what it is to be a social justice training center housed at our retreat center and how we can leverage Stony Point Center to put the social action desires of the Presbyterian Church (USA) into practice.
Guest Group Mission Statement Sampling
The Community Church of New York, Unitarian-Universalist, “has been our liberal, religious home, where we share our justice-based values, including freedom of expression, in Manhattan since 1825. Our Mission is to grow as a caring, justice-making, an/-racist, diverse, spiritual community.” They celebrated their 200th anniversary at Stony Point Center.
Economic Democracy “is people and communities owning and deciding together how to manage our collective needs, from housing and food to energy and economic development. [We] assert that we have the power to dream, plan and build more just and sustainable futures for ourselves and our children. [We] have played an integral role in libera/on struggles and movements for social change.”
Liberal Religious Educators: “LREDA is creating a world guided by love, justice, and equity through our mission of: Advocating for and supporting professional religious educators…by working to build a diverse multicultural Beloved Community by our actions that accountably dismantle racism and other oppressions in ourselves and our institution.”
Threshold Choir: “Singing for those at the thresholds of life. Singers receive specialized training around death and grief, bringing calm to the bedside, and producing a lullaby-like, harmonized blend of sound. There are about 200 chapters worldwide, with people doing this work as volunteers, singing to folks who are facing death or grief or suffering.”
The Angels of Transformation Dancers “is a ministry of dance and healing…. Together, we share our passion for dancing and love for God. We also use our various life experiences to minister our faith to others. Through dance, we hope to create a healing energy that transforms people’s lives and enlightens them about God’s light in the world.”
Leaders of Faith Cohort (sponsored by Resource Impact): “This cohort … aims to bring together national and California-based leaders from secular organizations who are themselves people of faith to discuss the intersection of faith and social justice. Over the course of 18 months, this cohort of Leaders of Faith will gather to build relationships, share experiences, engage with guest experts, and explore how their faith can drive social change and shape the moral imagination of our nation.”
Missionally-Aligned Groups:
Anecdotes & Testimonials
Stony Point Center’s mission is to nurture a space of inclusion and acceptance so guest groups can confront and transform the brokenness of our shared physical and spiritual world.
80% of our guest groups in June closely align with this mission. Will share some of their mission statements with you below, but first, an anecdote and a few comments about their stays here…
One night, when the Threshold Choir and the Angels of Transformation were both having dinner, the former sang for the latter and the latter returned in kind with spontaneous dance. Both groups glowed about the impromptu experience in their feedback forms.
Everything about Stony Point [Center] is aligned with our mission of acceptance, spreading love and light. – Angels of Transformation
