ROOTS: Retreat-based Organizing and Outreach Training School
Stony Point Center is embarking on a project to connect, equip and empower the church to actively engage their call to stand with the oppressed and dispossessed. When Myles Horton saw economic oppression in 1932, he founded the Highlander Folk School; when Rev. Deitrich Bonhoffer saw attacks on minimalized groups in Germany in 1933, he resisted and formed the Confessing Church; when Martin Luther King, Jr. saw voting rights being withheld in 1965, he marched across the Edmund Pettus Bridge; and as we see rights being taken away, and those in need not being cared for, Stony Point Center offers what we can best – leadership and experiences to equip and empower the whole church to action.
At Stony Point Center, we believe all are called to actively stand for justice! Will you join us? We are building the leadership and offerings now to begin in 2026. If you have an idea, a passion, or a yearning to make an impact, we need to hear from you now as ROOTS takes shape. We also need you to share this with other leaders within and without the church. Together we can work towards embodying God’s wholeness in the world.
